Education Programs
WMC actively participates in the Teacher of the Year program developed through our National AFA office. Each chapter is eligible to choose a winner for their chapter and submit the teacher's package for consideration at the state level. In recent years, WMC has been fortunate to have three state winners, and two of those were considered nationally. WMC is looking forward to submitting another teacher for state and hopefully national consideration again this year.

April Teacher Workshops: A Huge Success in Ohio! |

Wright Memorial Chapter held their Teacher Workshops at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Dayton, Ohio on April 18th. Over 100 teachers attended the event. During breakfast, Kathy Schweinfurt, Chief of the Education Outreach office for Wright Patterson Air Force Base, provided information on all programs that were available to them by either a phone call or email. Two-hour classes were held both in the morning and the afternoon and the teachers could choose the classes that best fit their needs. The luncheon speaker was Judith When, Chief, Education Division, at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. She shared the numerous programs that she provides for teachers, and encouraged them to contact her. Teachers were offered the opportunity to attend another set of workshops this summer and 63 teachers signed up on the spot.
Wright State University provided Continuing Education Units (CEU) for all teachers that attended. Teachers were required to complete a survey for each class to receive the CEUs. The results were very positive in describing the speakers and over 98% stated they would like to attend next year and would share the information with their fellow teachers.
The 2009 Teacher of the Year Award for both the Wright Memorial Chapter and the State of Ohio were presented to Tom Jenkins, Indian Valley School, Green on Local Schools in Clarke County at the luncheon.

Summer Jobs |
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Officials at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base are looking to hire about 300 students from high schools, colleges or technical schools for summer jobs.
The jobs in organizations across the base include life guards and administrative, finance, contracting, human resources, science and engineering support positions, the Air Force said Wednesday, Feb. 11. The employment is typically for 60 to 90 days, beginning in May or June.
Students hired for appropriated funded jobs typically can earn from $9.74 to $18.59 per hour, depending on their educational background, grade level and prior work experience. The pay range for non-appropriated funded positions in the base's services division — which includes the recreation, child care and food service facilities — is typically $7.70 to $8.50 per hour.
To be eligible for the summer employment program, students must be U.S. citizens, at least 16, and enrolled in high school, college or a trade/technical school. Students should complete a resume and apply via the following Web sites:
