Education Programs
|
WMC actively participates in the Teacher of the Year program developed through our National AFA office. Each chapter is eligible to choose a winner for their chapter and submit the teacher's package for consideration at the state level. In recent years, WMC has been fortunate to have three state winners, and two of those were considered nationally. WMC is looking forward to submitting another teacher for state and hopefully national consideration again this year.

What We Do |
Aerospace education is our main focus area within the chapter; a brief summary of our AFA Wright Memorial Chapter #212 Educators Action Team accomplishments in the 2012-2013 school year are listed below
The school year commenced with the continuation of an exciting program for our members, along with persons both military and civilian from WPAFB. We continued our tutoring program with the Fairborn City Schools that began in the previous school year. The bulk of our volunteers tutored at Fairborn Intermediate School (4th and 5th graders) while some worked in the 6th grade building. The program was a huge success throughout the entire district and will continue next school year.
In 2012 September, we held two grant writing sessions at Starbase on Wright-Patterson AFB Continuing Education Units (CEUs) sponsored by Wright State University. We used their computer lab and gave the teachers the opportunity to learn how to write a grant by actually writing the AFA Educator’s Grant valued at $250 per teacher. We had 18 of our attendees be awarded these grants this year. See the list of the grant winners below.
We provided 16 workshops for 200 educators in conjunction with TechFest 2013 - A Science & Math Exploration Extravaganza held at Sinclair Community College, Dayton, OH on 16 February 2013 with CEUs sponsored by Wright State University.
We provided another Teacher's Workshop on 21 April 2012 for 100 educators at with CEU's again sponsored by Wright State University.
We provided $4000 JROTC and $4000 ROTC in scholarships to support the continuation of the education of deserving students. The Chapter also provided an additional $5000 to support ROTC and JROTC Area and National Conclaves, JROTC Drill Meet and Annual Awards.
